ABOUT US

our work
At Mandrill Alert, we have three interventions to address the challenges faced by the deaf community in the war-torn regions of Cameroon: an alert system to warn deaf individuals of dangers during war periods, training in sign language, and fashion design as a vocational skill to make them more productive and secure in regions like ours.

Mandrill Alert: Inspired by Nature
The mandrill, one of the most striking and intelligent primates, is known for its vibrant colors, strong social bonds, and heightened awareness of danger. Native to the rainforests of Central Africa, including Cameroon, these highly social animals rely on facial expressions, body language, and rapid movements to communicate threats and protect their troop. Their ability to sense and respond to danger swiftly ensures the survival of their community—values that inspire the mission of Mandrill Alert.
Just as mandrills use visual signals to warn their group, Mandrill Alert is committed to protecting and empowering the deaf community in the war-torn North West region of Cameroon. In a conflict where gun battles and sudden attacks pose daily threats, deaf individuals face greater risks due to their inability to hear warning sounds. We bridge this gap by providing visual and non-verbal safety alerts, ensuring they can detect danger and respond swiftly—because awareness saves lives.

Ngwana Blaise, the founder of Mandrill Alert, is a passionate advocate for the deaf community in war-affected regions of Cameroon. As a hearing-impaired individual, Blaise understands the unique challenges faced by the deaf, especially in conflict zones.
His journey from overcoming societal pressure to mastering fashion design inspired him to empower others through vocational training, safety tools, and sign language education. Blaise’s vision is to transform how the world views deafness—not as a disability, but as a strength—and to create opportunities for safety, productivity, and dignity.
